Eye Wellness at Work: Simple Ways to Protect Your Vision

With most work days spent in front of screens, our eyes are under constant strain. Digital eye strain is common in the workplace and can cause dry or irritated eyes, blurred vision, headaches, and fatigue. The good news? Small changes can make a big difference.

Practice the 20-20-20 Rule
Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This simple habit helps relax eye muscles and reduce fatigue.
Set Up an Eye-Friendly Workspace
Keep your screen about an arm’s length away
Position the top of the monitor at or just below eye level
Reduce glare from windows or overhead lighting
Increase text size and contrast to avoid squinting
Remember to Blink
Focusing on screens reduces how often we blink and affects the quality of our tears, which can lead to dry eyes. Blink regularly and use artificial tears twice a day to maintain ocular surface health.
Take Regular Screen Breaks
Stand up, stretch, or step away from your screen each hour. Even brief breaks can refresh your eyes and improve focus.
Schedule Routine Eye Exams
Regular eye exams help catch vision changes early and ensure your prescription is supporting your work needs. Your eye care provider may also recommend computer or blue-light lenses.
